Tom Armitage, a young award winning composer from East Yorkshire, now living in Birmingham, has composed music for performers and ensembles such as Roland Sutherland, Fumiko Mitachi, and most recently the Orchestra of the Swan and Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. As a pianist, Tom has broadcasted for the BBC and has performed with orchestras and ensembles such as the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra and Thallein Ensemble. Most recently in Spring 2014 a recording of his large scale work for solo piano, March 16th, 1244, was commercially released, which is available to download from iTunes. He is Head of Keyboard Studies at the Birmingham Music School and has given masterclasses around both the UK and France. His projects for 2014 include a short piano piece to be published by World Humanities Press in Hong Kong and another CD of compositions based on Occitan folklore and literature.
