Back in 1962, Big Bear MD Jim Simpson was working a a photographer for Melody Maker. Sent to photograph Little Richard backstage at Birmingham Town Hall, he found himself apologising for taking the singer’s time. “Don’t you mind, boy” he said. “Just go ahead – I’m the prettiest man in rock’n’roll!”
