Sunday brought the first weekend of the 30th Birmingham International Jazz & Blues Festival to a close, but what a close! Starting with festival heartthrob Remi Harris at Searcy’s at the Rep, it was always going to be a good day of music, and with the weather looking kindly down on us once again, the stage was set for the likes of the Jazzband Velke Losiny, heralding from the Czech Republic, and the young Leeds-based band Alligator Gumbo to dazzle at The Drop Forge and Hotel Du Vin respectively. At the same time, John Hemming & The Sisters of Jazz played in the sunshine at the Botanical Gardens, among the flowers!
However, it was the evening once again that brought the big boys, with King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys providing their usual combination of comedy and musical excellence at StarCity. Rounding off the weekend in great style was a packed, sold-out, bustling show at Robin 2 with the enigma that is Paul Carrack, leaving the standard at a high point for others to emulate throughout the week!
